A Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) is a healthcare professional dedicated to the promotion, protection and support of breastfeeding and human lactation. The description may not sound gender-neutral, but that is an outdated stereotype. Take one look at Calvin Williams, a current CLC himself, who is advancing the field of lactation support in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Williams is a leader in the development of best practices that engage fathers and families in breastfeeding and related topics. As a co-author of the fatherhood curriculum, On My Shoulders, Williams is an active CLC with a lot of knowledge to lend towards equipping fathers for success in relationships with their children.

Williams completed the Lactation Counselor Training Course (LCTC) after receiving a scholarship from Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE).  Out of this process came Calvin’s vision to merge breastfeeding and fatherhood and he was subsequently hired by the Hamilton County (Ohio) Job & Family Services to lead the Hamilton County Fatherhood Collaborative. Through his work, Williams serves between 250-300 fathers per year and assists by providing conflict management and communication strategies.
