In 2024, a legislative bill passed to create a voluntary state certification program for doulas and lactation support providers as a way to become a provider who is eligible for Medicaid reimbursement for their services. The Office of Professional Licensure and Certification have published the rules of that certification program for the state, and they are available here.

In summary, CLCs are now eligible to apply for state certification, should they choose to do so (it is voluntary), and therefore qualify for Medicaid reimbursement as a provider for lactation support services. Additionally, IBCLC's, CLE's and CBS's are also eligible, marking the start of an inclusive reimbursement policy for the state.
