The House Ways and Means Committee has held a hearing titled "Legislative Proposals for Paid Family and Medical Leave." The hearing examined several legislative proposals for paid family and medical leave, including the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act (S. 462/H.R. 1185). The hearing featured witness testimony, including Sharon Terman, Director of Work and Family Policy at Legal Aid at Work of California. Terman linked paid leave with improved maternal and child health outcomes, including increased breastfeeding rates and duration, and shared stories from two women about how paid leave impacted their breastfeeding experiences. A recording of the hearing and transcripts of witness testimony are available on the Committee's website.
